Cathedral of Our Lady of Atonement @ Baguio City, Mountain Province

Well, after going to the Convent, we decided to go attend mass, since we wouldn't be able to attend mass the next day (Sunday). We would be leaving for Mani-este Pasay the next day. Awww.

So, we decided to attend mass at the Baguio Cathedral. It was only a small distance. If I could remember, we too a jeepney from the convent to the Cathedral.

It is easy to now that you're near since you can immediately see the towering spires as you approach the complex.

When we got there there was already an ongoing mass so we had to wait for a long time until we attend the next mass. Luckily, we were able to find a seat. :D Unluckily, I was very tired and sleepy.

A few minutes passed, and then the priest started talking (in the homily) about people who rarely do confessions - crap, I was hit really hard. Bato bato sa langit, matamaan huwag magalit! (Rock, rock in the sky, get hit, but do not cry! - this isn't a direct translation). I guess he even saw me falling asleep and drooping my head down and then up and down and... oh well, If we're in the Spanish times I must have been d@mned by the priests anyway. Sigh.....Te Deum

It was already nighttime when the mass ended.  Oh well, it's my last night in Baguio....ugh. After mass, we decided to go to SM Baguio (former Pines Hotel) to eat dinner and buy souvenir stuff.

The cathedral was first established by Belgian Missionaries on a hill called "Kampo" by the Ibaloi tribesmen. The cathedral construction was started on 1920 leaded by Rev. Florimond Carpu. It was consecrated (blessed) on 1936 under the patronage of Our Lady of Atonement.

During World War II, it was used as an evacuation center. It survived the Bombing of Baguio (March 15, 1945). People who have died in the bombing were interred in Cathedral property.
